The Red Store has proudly served the town of Murphys and Calaveras County since 1962. What began as a small shop selling picture frames, yarn, sewing supplies, and Dutch Boy paint eventually grew into a trusted local source for hardware and fireplaces.

In the 1970s, the store expanded into fireplace sales and installation, followed by a larger selection of hardware and home improvement supplies. The current owner’s grandfather Ron Milliken began working at the store in the mid-1970s and purchased the business in 1985, building it into a place the community could rely on. His son Gary and wife Angie joined in the 1980s, and today the business is proudly owned and operated by Tyler and Amy Milliken, the third generation to carry on the family’s tradition of service.

While we’re not a lumber yard, we stock a wide range of products to help DIYers, homeowners, and contractors complete their projects, and if you don’t find what you need, we will order it for you. We’re also proud to be known as the county’s fireplace headquarters.

As a local, family-owned store, we believe in supporting the community through youth sports, fundraisers, and local events whenever possible. Our goal is simple: to remain the trusted, hometown place for hardware, fireplaces, and friendly service.
